Anambra State Government has pledged to provide adequate support services to guarantee safety of Corps members in view of the proposed nationwide re-opening of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camps.
The Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, disclosed this on Tuesday, when she received a delegation from NYSC led by the Director, South East Area Office, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka.
The Commissioner assured them of the government’s commitment towards putting the Orientation Camp in good condition for corps members posted to the state.
She added that the state government through her ministry had always sustained good relationship with corps members, observing that those who had served in the state felt at home and had wanted to stay back.
According to Obiekezie, state government had always supported the scheme to enable it fully actualise its goals of youth development, capacity building and value re-orientation, promising not to relent.
Speaking earlier, the Director, South East Area Office of NYSC, Alhaji Ikaka, highlighted the need to create enabling and safe environment for corps members especially at this time of COVID-19 pandemic.
He commended Anambra state government for providing necessary infrastructure in the State NYSC Camp, and requested for construction of more hostels as well as quarters for its staff members.
He noted that the state, in the past, had one of the worst orientation camps, but currently, one of the best, saying that they never had it so good.
