The Anambra State Government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the well-being of children in the state, aligning with the annual Children’s Day celebration. This year’s theme, “Enhancing the Total Wellbeing of the Nigerian Child,” resonates with the Governor’s vision to prioritize education, health, and development for children in Anambra State.
Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, highlighted the Governor’s comprehensive plan to improve children’s lives. She emphasized the administration’s efforts to provide quality education, healthcare, and social welfare services, ensuring every child has access to resources for a thriving life.
Mrs. Obinabo praised the Governor’s initiatives, including free education from primary one to JSS 3 in safe public schools and the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIS), which provides affordable healthcare to children and women.
Speaker of the Anambra Children’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Victory Ekwunife, presented resolutions from their plenary session, focusing on issues affecting children. The resolutions included:
- Establishing a correctional center for children in conflict with the law.
- Creating temporary shelters for gender-based violence victims and survivors.
- Enforcing Section 17 (2-6) of the Child’s Right Law, pertaining to education.
- Establishing the VAPPL Commission to support efforts to curb gender-based violence.
The speakers thanked the Governor for his support and requested a follow-up desk to monitor progress on their requests. Governor Soludo, accompanied by his wife and top officials, received the resolutions and commended the children for their thoughtful recommendations. He assured them that his administration would consider their proposals for the benefit of all children in Anambra State.
The presentation received applause, and the children celebrated their moment of triumph, knowing their voices had been heard. This event demonstrated the Anambra State Government’s commitment to listening to children’s voices and promoting their welfare and development.
