Anambra state government is set to commence a training programme for tricyclist, popularly known as “keke riders” next week Monday.
In a statement by the Anambra State Ministry of Transport, training, testing and capturing of all tricyclists in the State will begin next week Monday with a view to improve safety of the road users, especially as yuletide approaches.
The exercise is set to cut across the three Senatorial Districts of the State and will lead to issuance of class “A” driver’s license to the Operators upon completion.
According to the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, who made the announcement in a press release in Awka,
The action is based on the established cases of recklessness by tricyclists, which has continued to pose danger to their lives and that of other road users in the state.
Mr. Mbanefo enjoined tricyclists in the State to maximize the opportunity, warning that with effect from the first of December, 2020, law enforcement agencies shall impound and prosecute tricyclists operating in the State without driver’s license.
