Anambra State Government has emphasised commitment towards the use of Agriculture to drive the economy of the state.
Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr Obioma Mbanefo said this during the handover of Bulk Cassava Processing Centre to Nwanneamaka Cooperative at Umuoba Abaegbu.
Explaining, Mr. Obioma said that Agriculture is key to this administration, that is why the government will continue to support various agriculture projects to the benefit of farmers and agriculture stakeholders.
While commending the Bulky Cassava Processing Centre project which was attracted by Nwanneamaka Cooperative through IFAD-VCDP in collaboration with Anambra State Government, he posited that Anambra West is a flood-prone area which has farm produce mostly affected whenever the river banks overflow but with projects like this the impact will not be felt so much this time around.
Mr Mbanefo pointed out that the project would serve many purposes like storage facilities for harvested crops and also market for farmers to sell their farm produce, laid credence to the state government’s commitment towards revolutionising agriculture in the state.
He concluded by noting that the project is one among numerous projects of IFAD-assisted Value Chain Development Programme in collaboration with the state government, and commended Gov. Willie Obiano for the tremendous support through payment of the state cash counterpart contribution for the Value Chain Development Programme, which made the project a reality.
Chairman, Nwanneamaka Cooperative Society Mr Cliff Nneli described the project as one of a kind in the whole LGA, noting that it was a project for the good of Anambra West.
Mr. Cliff noted that Anambra West is an agrarian society and projects like this will definitely be of immense benefit to farmers in the Area as it will serve as a storage centre in case of flooding, as well as a cassava processing centre for garri and other agricultural produce.
Community leader, Mr Joseph Nwabueze hailed the state government and IFAD for the project, and assured proper use of the project by the community.
