The Anambra state government has suspended the traditional ruler of Neni community in Anaocha Local Government Area, His Royal Highness, Igwe Damian Ezeani.
This move comes in response to Igwe Ezeani bestowing a chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South senatorial zone.
Senator Ubah received the title of Odenjinji of Neni during the yuletide.
In a letter, Anambra’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, accused the suspended monarch of not seeking clearance before conferring titles, particularly on individuals with questionable character.
Nwabunwanne stated that the brazen disregard for law and order as well as directives by lawful authorities cannot be tolerated in the new Anambra of today.
The suspension, exercised by the Governor’s powers, is effective until further notice, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty amidst the approaching election season.
