Anambra state government says it will investigate report on alleged fraudulent activities involving officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in the state.
The Commissioner for Transport, Mr Afam Mbanefo, gave the assurance in a chat with newsmen following public outcry on fraudulent activities by officials of the inspectorate.
He said the present administration has zero tolerance for corruption, confirming that there have been complaints by vehicle owners alleging harrasement and extortions by officials of the inspectorate, including impounding their vehicles.
A victim who spoke to journalists in confidence alleged that his car was impounded for three days by the officers for refusing to pay a fine of 50,000 naira.
He alleged that the VIO officials claimed that one of his vehicle documents which he paid for its renewal was fake, and that they checked on database for vehicle license and saw that he had problem.
Reacting, Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Macdonald Achuam, claimed that some motorists forge government documents.
An impeacable source from the Ministry of Transport, Anambra revealed that the VIO officials were in very serious racketting which they have used to expolit many unsuspecting motorists.
