
Anambra State Government on Thursday , held a special session in honour of Late Dr Edwin Onwudiwe. The session was well attended by family, friendsand top goverment officials . Onwudiwe was a second Republic senator and Commissioner for Health in the old Anambra State.
In a statement by the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Paschal Agbodike, he described Dr Onwudiwe as not just a senator but a remarkable achiever.
Dr Edwin Onwudiwe was the first Senator from the Omambala area , which is made up of Anambra East, Anambra West , Ayamelum and Oyi Local Government Areas of the Anambra state.
According to reports, he was the first medical doctors from the area. He was also a highly regarded gynecologist , who studied in Nigeria, United Kingdom and Switzerland and came out with outstanding results.
Senator Onwudiwe also served as the Commissioner for Health in the old Anambra state under Governor Jim Nwobodo.
While also extolling the qualities of Onwudiwe, the traditional Ruler of Nteje , Igwe Roland Odegbo described him as a generous man, competent and versatile.
According to Igwe Odegbo, Onwudiwe’s eloquence was highly admired as he spoke English and Igbo in a mesmerizing manner.
Dr Onwudiwe will be buried on Friday, November 13 in his hometown of Ogbunike, Anambra state.
