A three-day Sensitization workshop for traditional rulers and Town Unions Presidents-General in Anambra State on Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG CARES) organised by the State Community and Social Development Agency in implementing Nigeria CARES program for positive results, has ended in Awka.
The workshop organised separately for traditional rulers and Presidents-General from Anambra North, Anambra South and Anambra Central Senatorial Districts, took place at IDK Learning Center, Awka.
Addressing the participants, the Board Chairman of the State Community and Social Development Agency, Igwe Roland Odegbo, hinted that the Nigeria CARES in context and Rationale for World Bank Support will go a long way in cushioning the effects of poverty and vulnerability among the citizens.
He noted that the aim of the project was to amiloriate the hardship occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic, which has so much increased the level of poverty and vulnerability in society.
Igwe Odegbo enumerated other problems the program tends to address to include: Non labour income (remittance), as well as food insecurity that severely affects house holds among others.
The General Manager of the Agency, Mr Chudi Muojekwu, in his brief remark, explained that the Sensitization workshop would go a long way in supporting poor and vulnerable families, firms and farmers affected by coronavirus pandemic, and promised that they will work hard to ensure the success of the programme.
A member of the Board, Prince Chris Azor, and the Operation Manager, Mrs Uche Nwaizugbo, while appreciating the efforts of the world Bank, thanked Nigeria CARES for its support.
Mrs Nwaizugbe also called on the traditional rulers to ensure they enlist the names of vulnerable households in their domains facing challenges in their various communities’ Social Registers during this Covid pandemic era.
A resource person who is also the State Coordinator, State Operations, Coordinating Units, Engineer Bede Okoli, gave an insight on how the State Social Register of Poor and Vulnerable was established to enable communities feel the import of the program.
In their separate speeches some traditional rulers, Igwe Pius Omachonu of Olumbanasaa, Igwe Ben emeka of Umueri, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno, Igwe Charles Agbala of Uke, Igwe Conel John Onebunne of Akwaihedi, Igwe Engineer Emmanuel Onyeneke of Ekwuluobia and Igwe Peter Ezeamama of Enugwu Umuonyia, all thanked the state government and the Agency for providing succour to less privileged families devastated by the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
The royal father’s promised to work with Presidents-General of their communities to identify the poorest of the poor and as well ensure that they all benefit from the federal government and World Bank largesse for improved living Standard.
