Governor Willie Obiano has pledged to make Anambra State a national health tourism hub.

He made the pledge in Awka, while declaring open, the 2021 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigeria Medical Association, Awka Branch.
Governor Obiano, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, said that his administration has made remarkable progress towards attaining global healthcare targets, with notable policies.

He commended the theme for this year’s Conference, “Tissues and Organ Donation; Scope, Prospects and Ethical Challenges”, describing it as insightful, and praised the leadership of the association for its relentless services in healthcare delivery in Anambra State.

Speaking, the National President of the Nigeria Medical Association Professor Innocent Ujah, represented by the National Treasurer, Dr Eric Anazodo, said that Nigeria Medical Association will continue to ensure that members live above board to enhance quality healthcare services and also charged members to be professional in their practices.

In a welcome address, Anambra State Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Anambra State, Dr Jide Onyekwelu, hinted that the Annual General Meeting provides opportunity for medical practitioners to gather and rob minds with other stakeholders in the Health sector on new developments in health care delivery.

The keynote speaker and Nigeria Medical Association Chairman in Abia State, Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, observed that Nigeria has recorded low results in the area of tissues and organ donation, which he described as important aspect of successful medicine for the extension of human life.

On his part, Chairman on the occasion, Dr Emma Emelumadu, noted that health workers are the most challenged in this COVID-19 era and called for a critical review of practice laws for the safety of practitioners.

Contributing, the traditional ruler of Agulu, Anaocha Council Area, Igwe Innocent Obodoakor, urged members of the association to be more innovative and proffer solutions to rising health challenges in Nigeria.

The 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association, Awka Branch, was attended by medical practitioners within and outside Anambra State as well as stakeholders in the health care sector.
