Some youths, on Monday, blocked traffic at the Berger end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway over what they described as an “untenable state of affairs” in the country.
The protesting youths, who gathered under the aegis of, the “Angry Youth Movement”, said the roadblock was their reaction to the bad governance that has thrown Nigerians into an “unprecedented level of hardship.”
The youths carried a large banner with the inscription, ‘Questions For The Politicians And Religious Leaders, What Is The Future Of Nigeria?’ vowed to cripple the movement nationwide.
A member of the group, who pleaded anonymity, said the protest would be held across various highways in the country.
He said the youth were fed up with the way things are and would not rest until the Federal Government woke up to its responsibilities to the people.
He said the protest was for the betterment of all Nigerians because if they keep quiet, things will continue to get worse.
According to him, nobody knows what will become of the country in the next five to 10 years with the current level of insecurity, corruption, and economic hardship.
He said they would still take the protest to other parts of the country, lamenting that corruption has eaten deep into the country.
Reacting to the roadblock, mounted with bonfires on both sides of the road, some stranded commuters begged the protesters to take their agitations to the government house instead of inconveniencing innocent people, who are also affected by the hardship in the country, thereby, compounding their problems.
