Angry Protesters Display Five Corpses Of Persons Killed By Herdsmen At Ondo Government House
Angry Protesters on Wednesday, 19th March, 2025, shut down the Governor’s Office at Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State capital, over alleged killing of another five farmers by armed herdsmen in the last 24 hours.
The farmers were allegedly shot dead in another invasion by armed herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo, Akure North LGA of the state.
The protesters blocked all roads linking the Governor’s office, and also displayed Corpses of the victims killed by the herdsmen.
It was gathered that the farmers were killed early hours of that day by the armed herdsmen who had about a fortnight ago, killed about 20 farmers in four farm settlements in the same local government.
Activities at the governor’s office were grounded for hours following the protest.
The protest to the governor’s office on Wednesday, was the second in the last few weeks following the surge in kidnappings in the state.
Twenty farmers were killed by suspected herdsmen in the same council area last week after they invaded and sacked four communities.
The protesters shut down the governor’s office over the spate of kidnapping and the inability of the security agencies to curtail their activities.
They expressed concern that the criminals were having a field day despite the efforts of the security personnel.
Some farmers have equally barricaded the Akure/Owo highway, protesting the abduction and killings in the council area.
Addressing the protesters the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, urged the protesters to calm down, assuring that the government would act appropriately.
Dr Adelami however ordered that Amotekun officers be deployed to the troubled areas.
