In a call for national unity and reconciliation, the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Digital Force, Pharmacist Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant a state pardon to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking from Stockholm, Sweden, Klinsmann described President Tinubu as “a leader with a heart of gold whose politics is guided by compassion, inclusiveness, and national unity.” He noted that granting clemency to Kanu would mark a historic step toward healing deep-seated ethnic tensions and rebuilding trust, especially among citizens in the South-East region.
According to him, “At a time when Nigeria is navigating sensitive political and ethnic fault lines, the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would represent a bold step toward healing the scars of division and restoring confidence among the people of the South-East.”
Klinsmann commended the President’s earlier decision to pardon political detainees, urging him to extend the same spirit of mercy. He reminded the government of judicial debates surrounding Kanu’s continued detention and encouraged Tinubu to exercise his constitutional powers under Section 175 of the 1999 Constitution.
He stressed that such a move would not only calm agitations but also reignite economic activities in cities like Onitsha, Aba, Enugu, and other commercial hubs of the region. He further cautioned NANS and activist Omoyele Sowore against their planned protest to Aso Rock, warning that demonstrations could be hijacked, similar to the #EndSARS incident.
Klinsmann also highlighted President Tinubu’s infrastructural efforts in the South-East, referencing key projects such as the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, the Second Niger Bridge, and the establishment of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
He concluded by calling for a National Reconciliation and Integration Forum to foster unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups, saying: “Granting Kanu a presidential pardon will not be a favour to one man, but a gift to the nation—a legacy engraved in gold.”
