The remains of the former Dean, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Late Most Reverend Maxwell Samuel Chukwunweike Anikwenwa, have been laid to rest in his hometown, Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The service was officiated by His Grace, Most Rev’d Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, The Archbishop Metropolitan and the Primate Of All Nigeria, at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.
Aged 83, the former Archbishop of Province II, and retired Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese, died on 13th March 2023 after a brief illness.
He was buried at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Awkuzu, amidst ovation from church and community leaders and top government functionaries.
Maxwell was made the Dean of the Church of Nigeria in 2000, an office he held till 2010, becoming the longest serving Dean of the Church of Nigeria.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Blessing (Nnediogo) and three children, Venerable Uchechukwu, Barrister Mrs. Ebelechukwu Dan-Okeke and Mrs Ogochukwu Obiakor as well as many relations and in-laws.
Some of the dignitaries that graced the event were Governor Of Anambra State represented by his Deputy ,Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, Senator Dr. Victor Umeh, Rep. Oby Orogbu, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze ,Speaker Anambra State House Of Assembly, Igwe Peter Nwokike Anugwu of Mbaukwu Community, Igwe Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu of Umuawulu Community among many other.
