BY MICHAEL EZENWATA

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Awka Diocese, played host to Archbishops, Bishops and clergymen of the Anglican Communion from Dioceses across the Federation to celebrate one of their own, the Archbishop of Niger Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Grace, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim (Ph.D) as he marks his 60th birthday.

The event attracted the Primate, Metropolitan Church of Nigeria Archbishop Dr. Henry Ndukuba, who commissioned some landmark projects executed by Archbishop Ibezim as part of activities to mark his birthday and achievements.

At the Church of Redemption Chapel, Unizik, Awka Campus, the Primate dedicated the Chapel amid cheers from the congregation who appreciated the giant strides of Archbishop Ibezim who has, since his assumption of office, demonstrated his commitment to duty.

Felicitating with the Archbishop on his 60th birthday, Archbishop Ndukuba wished him more fruitful years of service to humanity.

The Primate prayed for the principal officers of UNIZIK and for the quick resolution of the impasse between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government.

During the commissioning of the Archbishops Palace, the Church of Nigeria’s Primate appreciated the edifice as a point of contact for the spiritual growth of the diocese.

The Awka Diocesan Architect and Chairman, Works Committee of the Anglican Communion, Chief Okey Chukwuogor, welcomed the Primate to the Diocese and hinted that he was instrumental to some designs and erection of structures in the Diocese.

Chief Chukwuogor used the opportunity to call for the settlement of the dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government.

In a remark, an Anglican Knight of St. Paul and one time Deputy Chairman, Awka South Council Area, Chief Chukwuemeka Orjiakor, expressed delight at the administration of Archbishop Ibezim which, he noted, has impacted positively in the lives of many in the Niger Province.

Chief Orjiakor used the forum to call on the INEC to extend the voter registration exercise by at least two months to enable eligible voters to exercise their franchise during the 2023 general elections.

The Primate used the occasion to commission the Awka Diocesan Archival Centre refurbished by Archbishop Ibezim, as well as some hostel blocks at the Anglican Queens Convent in Awka.
