Association Of Visually Impaired Students Charge INEC To Ensure An All-Inclusive Polls

Ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra state, a blind students advocacy group, National Blind Students Advocacy Empowerment Network (NBSAEN) have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that blind students exercise their individual franchise without any limitation in the upcoming governorship election in the state.

The group stated that it is the constitutional right of blind students as well as other citizens to vote and be voted for in an election and no agency, institution or any individual should deny them of such right, urging INEC to create an enabling environment for this right to be exercised.

In a press release in Awka, the state capital Comrade Benedict Chidobem the National coordinator of the group commended the Independent National Electoral Commission on steps taken so far and called on the commission to ensure that blind students exercise their franchise in the November 6 governorship election by providing necessary materials to enable them to cast their vote in the election. he also called on the blind students in the state to come out en masse to vote for their preferred candidates.

The group further charged the Independent National Electoral Commission to exercise due diligence in ensuring the unhindered participation of the physically challenged at the polls.
