“August Meeting, Women Should Focus More On Proper Child Upbringing For Good Of Family, Society – Mrs Soludo
Wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has said that “August Meeting” should be a time to lay emphasis on functional families, proper upbringing of children, and welfare of women for the good of the family and the society.
The Governor’s wife who stated this during the second edition of her live August Meeting Program On Radio, maintained that the period should not be just for fund raising and other monetary activities.
Mrs Soludo who spoke on the topic, “The Role of Mothers In Modern Day Parenting”, regretted the state of parenting in the modern society, describing as alarming, a rea on she has taken it as a responsibility to reorient women and the girl child in child upbringing so as to get it right.
The governor’s wife who is also the founder of the non-governmental organization, “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo”, encouraged religious bodies to use the August Meeting to reflect and preach healthy marital values in families instead of seeing it as a period of financial unrest for women who will struggle to meet up with the different contributions and material competitions among themselves.
She, however, stressed that child upbringing is a responsibility of both parents and not just the wife.
Mrs Soludo who is the founder of “The Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo”, condemned early marriage especially among the girls, and asked parents to allow their girl child to be of age and make enquires about the family background of their proposed spouses before giving them out in marriage.
She also warned against parents who place curses or lay different forms of abuse on their children, noting that they impact on the children’s psychological, mental and overall developments.
Other guests on the programme including the wife of the Bishop of the Diocese on the Niger, Dr Mrs Elsie Nwokolo, the Director of Catholic Women Organization, CWO, Awka Diocese, Lady Sabina Ndigwe, and a Consultant Pediatrician, Dr Chioma Mbachu, in their separate contributions, asked women to show love, pay more attention and show more concern to the development of their children.
