The Catholic Diocese of Awka, has through Justice Development and Peace Commission, JDPC, provided relief materials to flood displaced persons at Awba-Ofemili, Ugbene and Ugbenu communities in Awka North Council Area submerged by flood.
Items donated were bags of Rice, Beans, Melon, Dikanut, Cassava floor, Maize, and Crayfish aimed at cushioning the effects of the disaster on them.
Others are tubers of Yam, cartons of noodles, tin tomatoes, bags of Onions, cartons of biscuits, vegetable oil, salt, tissue papers and other toiletries.
Handing over the items to the Parish Priest, Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Awba-Ofemili, the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Awka, the Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor said they came to show love, concern and care to their flocks and expressed gladness that no life was lost in the area.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who frowned at the inability of the federal government to prevent flooding, stressed the need to elect leaders that will proffer permanent solution to the flood disaster facing the country.
Earlier in his speech, the Diocesan Chancellor, Very Reverend Father Charles Ndubisi, extolled the efforts of the Bishop in reaching out to the flood victims describing it as practical christianity at play.
