Awka South Local Government says it will sanction five Restaurants for failing to comply with COVID-19 Safety Protocols as stipulated by government to check the spread of coronavirus.

Awka South Transition Committee Chairman, Mr. Leo Nwuba, who is also the Head of the Council’s COVID-19 Taskforce, disclosed this in Awka, after arresting defaulters backed by security operatives.

Recall that Anambra State Government in June, last year, set up COVID-19 Law Monitoring and Enforcement Task Force in all the local government areas, charged with the responsibility of operationalizing enforcement of the newly signed Anambra State COVID-19 Law.
According to Mr. Nwuba, the Task Force on COVID-19, which was instituted by the state government, is part of measures to check the spread of the disease and ensure the safety of citizens.
While reading out their offenses and educating them at various places visited, Mr. Nwuba lamented that some restaurants are reluctant to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, hence the need to enforce the law.
He advised customers to always insist that staff put on facemasks and also wash their hands properly before serving them.
Some of the restaurant owners, who admitted guilty, appealed for mercy, and promised to henceforth, abide by the rules and regulations.
