In a recent development, the crisis at the Rivers State House of Assembly has escalated as factional speaker, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ehie Ogerenye, loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, resigned both as speaker and member of the assembly.
Ogerenye formally communicated his resignation in a letter to the National Chairman of INEC, also stepping down as the representative for Ahoada-East Constituency II.
In the letter, he expressed gratitude to colleagues and constituents for the opportunity to serve.
The resignation follows mediation by President Bola Tinubu, who, in an 8-point resolution, directed recognition of Martins Chike Amaewhule as the new speaker, while also mandating the repetition of certain actions taken by the former speaker, Edison.
