The House of Representatives has advanced a bill seeking to abolish the discrimination between Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor’s Degree holders.

Sponsored by Fuad Laguda from Lagos State, the bill proposes replacing HND with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) to ensure polytechnic graduates compete fairly with university graduates.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) will oversee degree programs, while the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will handle diplomas.

The bill has scaled second reading following approval by lawmakers.
