Residents of Universal Road by Medical Store road, Okhoro, Benin city were thrown into a frenzy as the decomposing body of a Septuagenarian, Mrs Agbenese Oshoma was found in an apartment, nine days after her death.
However, 60 years old Grace Osagede and 58 years old Theresa Suberu were aware of their mother’s death but kept the news to themselves and left her in their apartment for nine days, until the stench from their house caused neighbours to forcefully gain entrance into the house.
It was gathered that the siblings went about their normal business in the house while their mother’s corpse rotted away.
When questioned, one of the daughters, Osagede said she was instructed by God not to let anyone know of their mother’s death while Theresa said, her elder sister told her not to tell anyone.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Edo state, Kotongs Bello said that the police has evacuated the corpse but the sisters were not arrested as there was no reasonable ground to arrest them and since there is no evidence to show that they compromised the law.
