In compliance with the passionate appeal made by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for full participation of the citizens in a statewide prayer session billed for last Monday, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, led parishioners of St Patrick’s Church, Awka, to pray for the restoration of peace and security in Anambra State, South East and the country in general.

The Governor’s call was occasioned by the Monday sit-at-home directive and incessant threat to peace and security by the activities of unknown gunmen and some criminal elements leading to the loss of innocent lives.
The most recent of their dastardly acts was the gruesome murder of some officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps last Sunday.

The Prelate suspected foul play at the high level of violence in Igbo land which, he noted, is alien to the Igbo race and possibly manipulated externally.
The Bishop expressed confidence in the efficacy of prayer and called for its sustenance.

The Bishop decried the injustice being meted out on the Igbo race, describing it as unjust and further expects that justice is done to reverse the trend.
While admitting that the Igbos are highly marginalized, Bishop Ezeokafor however, faulted the idea of Monday sitting at home as counter-productive.
He advised them to change their method of agitation, and embrace the voice of reason for the citizenry to move on.
