Chief Emeakayi Emerges President-General, Okija Town Union Caretaker Committee, Ihiala LGA

Chief Ken Emeakayi has emerged the President-General of Okija Town Union Caretaker Committee in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The emergence of Hon. Emeakayi and other caretaker committee members of the town Union followed a mini election/Voice Vote, organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs at the SSG’s Conference Hall, Government House Awka.

Hon. Emeakayi was unanimously elected by members from Okija Ubahu Abu Ubahu, Uhuobo na Uhuowelle and ihite Abu Ihite, Okija.

The Elected Executive members present also unanimously elected Barrister Ikenna Obidiegwu as the Secretary General, Honourable Nwabueze Umeh – the Financial Secretary, while Comrade Chukwuebuka ilo emerged the PRO.

Addressing the Stakeholders from the three quarters of the town, the Commissioner for the Ministry, Hon. Collins Nwabunwanne who represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the occasion, made them to understand that they collectively voted in the Caretaker Committee Executives to serve for twelve months with the mandate to draft the constitution of Okija town Union.

The Commissioner congratulated them for the peaceful conduct of the election, describing it as exemplary.

The Commissioner further intimated that the state government will, at the end of the twelve months, organize election that will usher in elected Executives that will serve in the town Union in accordance with the constitution.

The Local Government Commissioner stated categorically that anybody that served in the current Caretaker Committee would not be qualified to contest in the main town Union election to be conducted at the expiration of twelve months tenure of the Caretaker Committee.

He charged them to live in peace and carry everybody along, even as he urged them to support the Soludo administration in fighting crime and criminality in their town and the State in general.

He stressed the need for them to know their neighbours and report criminal elements in their dormain to appropriate authorities.

In his remark, the Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Pascal Agbodike, who hails from the Council Area, congratulated the Town Union Caretaker Committee members, and also appreciated them for keying into Soludo’s vision and mission.

The House of Assembly Deputy Speaker also commended them for demonstrating that Okija is a peaceful town, while promising them efficient and quality representation.

In his vote of thanks, the new Okija Town Union Caretaker Committee President-General, Hon. Emeakayi, appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Commissioner Collins Nwabunwanne, and Honourable Pascal Agbodike, for their efforts in putting to an end, the lingering differences among them, restoring peace and stability in the town.

He promised that the people of Okija will continue to give their unalloyed support to constituted authority.

Honourable Emeakayi also promised to carry everybody along in piloting their affairs especially in areas of security of lives and property, while praying God to bless and reward them abundantly.

Present at the event were ASATU President- General, Barrister Titus Akpudo, ASATU Zonal leader, Sir Chuka Dennis and Barrister Ozoemena Erinne among others.
