Chief of Army Staff , Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya has described Reuters report of alleged mass abortion carried out by the military on victims of Biko Haram terrorism in the North East as a work of fiction and a ploy to diminish the military ‘s success in fighting insurgency.
Farouk said that the army is succeeding and some people are not happy with their success and so, they turn around to make rubbish of their efforts.
In a public hearing at the National Human Rights Commission headquarters in Abuja on Saturday, the Chief of Army Staff said that the Nigerian Army is not like Boko Haram that does not operate under code of conduct but instead, they have respect for human beings and their business is to defeat the insurgents. He maintained that the Reuters story does not support the true reality of the situation in the North East.
The investigative panel had its first sitting at the medical facility complex of the Maimalari Cantonment where it was reported that most of the abortions were carried out.
The commanding officer of the military hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Adeniyi Ogunsakin had denied the allegations of mass abortions as mere claims that can be made by anyone which has no foundation or proof to back it up .
