In the wake of recent forceful takeover of power by the military in parts of Africa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has once again pledged loyalty of the military leadership to democratic rule in the country.

Irabor made the pledge during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.

According to Irabor, Nigerians should no longer doubt the subordination of the military to civil rule, as democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. He also expressed belief that no one was in doubt any longer that the current military leadership is well focused to perform its constitutional roles.

Speaking about the significance of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, he admitted that some Nigerians might still be struggling with their experience regarding military involvement in politics in the past, but expressed optimism that some of the misperceptions some Nigerians have about the military and its engagement will begin to change with increased literacy level.

Irabor also commended the efforts of military personnel on the occasion of the Armed Forces Remembrance day.
