Renowned Writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has advised young people to give up social media for about two weeks or more to grow the habit of reading as it is the only way to counter the spree of book banning in the United States of America.
She made this suggestion when she received the W.E.B Du Bois Medal from Harvard University on Thursday.
According to her, the most meaningful thing for her as a writer is to know that she can create something that means something to other people. She also said that what moves her the most is to hear from people who have read her and tell her that her work made them feel seen, think differently, and feel that they are not alone.
She admonished the young people saying they should care about reading , as reading is so important and magical. She equally described books as being magical.
On giving up social media for books, Adichie said, young people should give up social media for wo weeks, three weeks, a month, and read.
