Cholera Outbreak Claims 13 Lives In Ebonyi
Ebonyi State government says Cholera outbreak has claimed 13 lives in some remote communities in Ebonyi and Izzi Local Government Areas of the State.
Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, who made this known at a Press
Briefing on Saturday, said the the affected communities include Oferekpe, Okum and Ndibokote.
The Commissioner informed that the State Government and other health partners are working round the clock to prevent escalation of the cases, and further revealed that 69 cases have also been confirmed in those affected communities.
He attributed the outbreak to a bacteria and assured that the State Government will do everything possible action to prevent escalation and further outbreak.
Some residents of the areas who described the outbreak as worrisome, commended the State Government and Health Officials for their intervention.
They appealed for the provision of basic social amenities, especially, water, standard health facilities,
Electricity and good road network to help tackle the root cause of such outbreaks.
Reports say one of the communities, Ndibokote Village of Ezza inyimagu, in Izzi LGA that has boundary with Benue State lack access to portable pipe borne water, roads, health care, electricity and other basic amenities, saying that the situation has been of concern to the people.
