Citizens have been advised to cultivate, as well as consume Bio fortified crops enriched with Vitamin A.

The Director, Technical Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Awka, Mr Emeka Okoli, gave the advice in an interview with journalists In his office in Awka, Anambra state capital.

Mr Okoli who is also Partner to Harvest Plus and Gain Bio Fortified Crops hinted that they now preach the Commercialization of Bio Fortified crops such as Cassava, Maize and Orange fresh Potatoes, to all families in the state and the country at large.

He explained that these Bio fortified crops are less Starchy and are rich in vitamin A and Micro Nutrients that help avert infectious diseases in the body System.

Mr Okoli also made it known that Bio fortified crops reduces infant and Maternal mortality, help to improve ones sight as well reduce health challenges and visits to hospitals as such food items are good quality foods.

He advised farmers and the citizenry to visit the Ministry of Agriculture, Awka, for more information and purchase of the improved food items and seedlings like cassavas Stem, Maize and potatoes which, he said, are available and Affordable .

Mr Okoli further enjoined Agro dealers to help link up with farmers so that they would join in planting, processing, Utilizing and marketing the Bio Fortified crops rich in Nutrients and Vitamin A for food sufficiency.

Contributing, an Agric Enthusiast, Mr Ajuluchukwu Okagbue, urged the citizens to avoid quantity and embrace quality foods with nutrients that help to open up the brain, as well as give Children stronger bones and healthy growth.

He advised parents to purchase Bio Fortified crops that have been processed and packaged at their ADP office for use, as according to him, the bio fortified crops are very good for the body.

Mr Okagbue seized the opportunity to appeal to government to look into incessant farmers/herdrsmen clashes to put an end to destruction of farm produce which may lead to food scarcity.

He also advised farmers to Lodge such complaints to the Cattle Menace Committee at the Government House, Awka, for appropriate actions.
