Commissioner for Transport, Mr Afam Mbanefo, has announced that the Ministry will soon unveil new bus stops and sign posts with name tags.
He said this will make for easy identification as well as help maintain orderliness on the roads and ensure free flow of vehicular traffic.
Commissioner Mbanefo disclosed this during a meeting with the Drivers’ Unions in his office in Awka.
He further revealed that the Task force will soon swing into action against one way traffic offenders, loading and off loading on the roads; while unlawful ticketing agents will also be arrested.
The Commissioner also hinted that Traffic offenders will be tried at the Mobile Courts and their vehicles impounded with evidences of their offences snapped and presented in pictures and video graphics.
According to the Transport Commissioner, strict implementation and compliance with COVID-19 protocols among all the big lorry drivers, commercial buses, shuttle buses and tricyclists will be enforced and defaulters will be penalised.
Mr Mbanefo asked the drivers to comply with security operatives to achieve government mandate of ensuring safety on the roads.
Anambra State Chairman, Urban Drivers Welfare Association, (UDWAAS), Mr Moses Ohanebo, represented by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Kingsley Adiele, promised that drivers would adhere to government directives.
He appealed to government to intervene and help them solve challenges facing the union such as illegal ticketing, extortions and intimidation from touts.
In attendance include Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Nkiru Okonkwo and other Government officials.
