Commissioner of Police Cautions Ndi Anambra To Be Mindful Of Their Environment To Avoid Fire Outbreaks

The harmattan is here and recent upsurge in cases of fire incidents are becoming almost a daily occurrence in the state since last week.

To that effect, the Commissioner of Police ,CP John Abang has urged Ndi Anambra and residents alike to endeavour and take precautionary measures in order to avert or minimize cases of fire outbreaks during this harmattan period.

According to the release by The Command Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Haruna Mohammed, CP Abang stated that statistics by the Command shows that the major causes of fire incidents in Anambra state are basically Harmattan season, bush burning, electricity, careless handling of gas cooker, over speeding and reckless driving by truck drivers .

CP John Abang used the opportunity to caution the public against bush burning and reckless driving especially by trucks laden with inflammable substances and overloading , which mostly cause electric sparks when in contact with EEDC cables hovering across the highways.

He also enjoined residents to always switch off electronic appliances in their homes, business premises and various offices when not in use to avoid electric power surge.

It will be recalled that between January 21, 2021 till date, the Command has recorded about six cases of fire incidents .

The resultant effects of the above cases of fire incidents include loss of life, injuries to persons and destruction of buildings and numerous properties worth millions of naira, thereby subjecting the victims to untold hardships.
