The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has arrested and arraigned seven suspected well known pirates in court as a result of intelligence reports and investigation.
This was made known to the media by Mr John Asein, Director General of the NCC.
He decried the untold hardship on authors and owners of intellectual property in the country by pirates.
While emphasizing that piracy kills and that Nigerians are losing billions of naira yearly to it, Asein affirmed that the commission is currently working with some federal enforcement agencies on some suspected and targeted areas in the country.
Asein also confirmed that lots of schools across Nigeria patronise pirated books. He called for change of attitude while also calling for people that patronise pirated to desist from doing so.
Asien described lack of funds, equipment and manpower as major issues mitigating against the commission’s effective delivery of services.
