A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has adjourned a fundamental rights suit filed by Lake Petroleum Limited against the Anambra State Government and Onitsha South Local Government to February 13, 2025.

The case involves the alleged demolition of over 1,600 shops and houses, displacing more than 4,000 traders and sand miners.

Lake Petroleum is challenging the demolition led by Onitsha South Caretaker Chairman, Emeka Orji, despite an interim court order. The company’s counsel, Gerald Ezeuko (SAN), accused Orji of violating the injunction.

The judge, presiding for the first time, granted a motion for substituted service and criticized delays. The case, ongoing since March 2024, has faced setbacks due to judge transfers and insecurity.

However, none of the defendants or their legal representatives appeared in court.
