In an attempt to curb a surge in coronavirus cases, California began a night time curfew on Saturday. Accoring to reports, California’s latest figures are now worse than the previous peak in August. California reported a case of one million last week . According to Governor Gavin Newsom of California, the daily curfew which took effect from 10 o’clock Saturday till 5 O’clock will carry on until 21 December . According to report, there may be an extension if needed.
In a data compiled by John Hopkins University, the death toll linked to Covid-19 across the United States has reached a new high for the first time since May. The country has now more than 12 million confirmed infections, with more than 255,000 deaths. This has been recorded as the highest death toll in the world.
Following the 187,000 new infections recorded across the country on Friday,as against Thursday, which is seen as an all time high, several states have imposed new mask mandates and restrictions to try to combat the rise . In Texas, the National Guard is being deployed to the city of El Paso to help with morgue operations.
According to report, the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also urged Americans to avoid travelling for the Thanksgiving holiday on 26 November to prevent increased transmissions.
Typically, Thanksgiving heralds the busiest week for travel in the United States . Last year, an estimated 26 million people passed through the country’s airports in the week surrounding the holiday.
