Nigerians have been reminded that there is still a need to curb the spread of Covid-19 as the virus is still very much active around the world, as well as in Nigeria.
The director of Nigeria Center For Disease Control ( NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu told Newsmen on Saturday in Abuja that it is important for Nigerians to remember the public health and social measures required to reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19, especially during the festive period.
While also encouraging Nigerians to come out for testing, he said Testing is one of the key components in Nigeria’s response to the pandemic as it helps to ascertain the incidence of Covid-19 in the community and offers opportunity to break the chain of transmission in the community and tracking of mutation of SARS -CoV-2 in the country.
He stated that samples are tested daily as each state and the FCT have several collection sites with at least one molecular laboratory to test and urged Nigerians to available themselves of the opportunity to get tested.
He reminded Nigerians that the symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, sneezing, loss of smell and taste among others.
He however maintained that some individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes Covid-19 may never develop symptoms , hence the need for people to voluntarily go for testing.
