he Nigeria Society for Criminology says urgent reforms are needed in the country’s correctional service, revealing that over 53,000 out of 81,000 inmates are awaiting trial.
The society’s president, Professor Oludayo Tade, announced a national conference to be held June 26–27 at the University of Abuja. Themed “Correctional Service Reformation in Nigeria,” the event will feature over 100 experts proposing solutions to overcrowding, rehabilitation gaps, and justice system flaws.
The society aims to promote fair justice, inmate rehabilitation, and reintegration into society through evidence-based recommendations.
