The Defence Headquarters has expressed concern over misleading social media reports, which have been distorted to suggest that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) received a request for a change in leadership.

In a statement by Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau on Sunday, the Army clarified that the AFN never received or issued such a declaration to anyone or any group. He said the message is believed to originate from individuals with negative intentions towards the nation’s well-being and progress.

Gusau said that the AFN is fully supportive of democracy and remains loyal to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The military also reiterated committment to upholding the constitution and urged those spreading falsehoods to cease their actions or face legal consequences.
He also stated that both the Military and other security agencies are actively monitoring such individuals, and unity is essential in fortifying the country’s democracy.
