The Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has charged residents of Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Ogbaru, and Idemili North Local Government Areas to adhere strictly to the waste evacuation and drainage desilting exercise scheduled to hold in the areas for three days, starting from yesterday, Saturday second March 2022, through Monday, 4th March 2022.
The Deputy Governor gave the directive in his office in Awka,
He pointed out that the massive and intensive waste evacuation and drainage desilting exercise in the four Local Government Areas is aimed at ensuring cleanliness and a healthy environment across the state.
Dr. Ibezim, who is in charge of the sanitation exercise, requested that residents of the areas should join the exercise by cleaning up their compounds and surroundings.
He explained that the wastes evacuated from the areas would be taken directly to dump sites, where the state government has already concluded arrangements to convert to landfills, for the Wastes to Wealth project.
Dr. Ibezim disclosed that the exercise would be replicated in other Local Government Areas in the state, to save the state from health hazards caused by an unhygienic environment and poor waste management.
He advised the citizens to always keep their environment clean and make proper use of waste bins designated in strategic areas across the state.
