In a developing rift within the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Secretariat in Abuja, top officials are embroiled in a dispute over alleged financial fraud and recklessness.
This is according to a report based on a leaked letter from NGF Director of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, addressed to NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.
Barkindo, in the letter, revealed concerns about the secretariat’s financial practices, describing it as more transactional than developmental. He accused the NGF of being a conduit for a few individuals rather than an agent of change.
Barkindo called for a forensic audit of all NGF accounts, including those opened during crises periods.
Highlighting the lack of audits for over a decade, Barkindo emphasized the personalization of the Forum’s finances by a select few.
The letter exposed discrepancies in income distribution among staff, citing instances like a staff member earning only N20,000 ($20) monthly in an organization generating over three billion Naira annually.
Specifically, Barkindo raised issues regarding the N630 million deductions from the N5 billion infrastructure support fund during Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq’s chairmanship, attributing it to a deliberate attempt to undermine him.
The letter concludes with Barkindo’s call for a comprehensive forensic audit, urging scrutiny of accounts opened during crisis periods to ensure transparency and accountability within the NGF.”
