The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, on Thursday, 15th July 2021, inspected ongoing renovation works at the Dental Complex in Onitsha General Hospital which the scheme is undertaking.
Dr Onyemaechi explained that the vision of Governor Willie Obiano for setting up ASHIA was to give quality and affordable healthcare to Ndi Anambra. This the government intends to achieve according to him, through a robust funding mechanism to ensure that the routine cycle of funding through budget processes do not prevent the implementation of healthcare delivery in Anambra.
The Executive Secretary who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health pointed out that the scheme entered into social contracts with managements of public healthcare facilities in Anambra on how best to utilize funds accrued to them through the capitation rates and others.
He emphasized that ASHIA partnered with the management of General Hospital Onitsha and utilized the funds generated to remodel the Dental Complex that would serve as a regional reference centre.
Dr Onyemaechi stated that the Agency has provided solar energy systems, vehicles, hospital equipment and others to some general hospitals like Enugwu-Ukwu, Umueri and others.
While conducting the visitor round the complex, the Chief Medical Director, Dr Nnamdi Ikpelinwa informed that the centre was about the largest dental and maxillofacial Complex in Nigeria.
He appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for his support, initiatives and huge investments in the health sector.
Dr Nnamdi commended ASHIA leadership for the judicious management of health funds and resources which have greatly improved the health facilities and provided better equipment for more efficient healthcare delivery in the state.
The Dental Complex which is expected to be completed in about three weeks time has three well-equipped theatre units, dental technology laboratory, an X-ray room, recovery room.
