Edo Govt Postpones School Resumption Indefinitely Due To Fuel Price Hike

Edo State Government has decided to delay the reopening of both public and private schools across the state indefinitely following sudden surge in the price of Premium Motor Spirit — Fuel.

The Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Benin.

Schools in the state were initially scheduled to resume for September 9, 2024, but the resumption has now been postponed indefinitely, as the state grapples with the effects of the fuel price hike.

The statement reads:
“The Edo State Government wishes to inform the public that the resumption of all schools, originally set for Monday, September 9, 2024, has been postponed until further notice,” Akin-Longe stated. “The decision stems from the tension caused by the rising fuel costs, which has posed significant challenges for parents and guardians”.

The government also encouraged parents and caregivers to remain vigilant and closely supervise their children during this period of uncertainty.

This announcement highlights the ongoing difficulties many Nigerians are facing due to the sudden hike in fuel prices, which has created widespread concerns across the country.
