Mothers have been charged to be strong in the Lord and ready to engage in warfare, which starts from the purity of heart, godly actions and words that calm the soul, as true soldiers of the Christ should exhibit.
Speaking to the mothers in her Mother’s Day message, the wife of the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka, Mrs Martha Ibezim said that mothers have been greatly esteemed by the Lord and the church in recognition of the work they do in their families, the church and the society at large.
Speaking on the theme of the day, “Be strong in the Lord”, she reminded mothers that as soldiers in the Lord, they should be alert knowing they are in the midst of foes and be boldly equipped to fight for the course of Christ against the world and the devil by fighting according to the rules and regulations of the Lord Jesus Christ, assured of their freedom.
Mrs Ibezim also tasked mothers to be educated and get necessary training so as to be self-employed, which has been made possible by the Anglican Communion through the establishment of the Renaissance Polytechnic in Mbaukwu, Awka South.
While admonishing the mothers, the Vicar of St Stevens Parish, Awka, Reverend Thankgod Nwankwo, said the mothers have a special place in the heart of God and prayed for God’s continual blessings, even as the Mothers remember to pray for the church and the activities of the mothers in the diocese as pleaded for by Mrs Martha Ibezim.
Visibly elated, the vicar’s wife, Nneora Oby Nwankwo expressed her appreciation to the vicar of the church, her husband, Revd Thankgod Nwankwo and the church teacher and his wife, Ambassador Stanley and Onyinye Atueyi and the entire church members for their cooperation and assistance to the women’s ministry.
She said the church was indirectly handed over to the women when Jesus told Mary Magdalene to inform his apostles that he has risen. She urged women not to relent in their work for God has uplifted womanhood in general and motherhood in particular.
As part of the activities to mark the Mother’s day celebration at St Steven’s Parish, Awka, there was the decoration of mothers and ladies of the day, in recognition of their various services to the church, cutting off the Mother’s day cake and fund raising for Evangelism bus.
Special renditions by children and blessings from the elderly mothers were special moments when the congregation joined the mothers to receive blessings from God.
Apart from the spiritual upliftment, congregants were also fed physical food as the women handed out packs of food and drinks to all.
