February 28 Predicted as Onset of Planting Season, 2022

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) made this known in the agency’s 2022 seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) report, which was delivered by the Aviation Minister, Send Hadi Sirika on Tuesday in Abuja.

NiMet has posited that in the coastal parts of the country, the earliest kickoff of the planting season is likely to start by Feb 28 whereas the onset of rainfall is likely to start between April and May in the central states and finally in the northern states within June and July in the northern states.

According to the agency, the annual total rainfall prediction shows that the annual rainfall amount is expected to be normal in most parts of the country.

The agency also predicted rainfall cessation dates across most parts of the country in 2022 to be near the long – term average conditions.
