Nigeria has adopted its first National Policy on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management to improve the health, dignity, and opportunities of women and girls.
Validated in Abuja by the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the policy was developed with support from WaterAid Nigeria and Population Services International.
It addresses stigma, poor access to menstrual products, and lack of information factors linked to school absenteeism, early marriage, and limited opportunities.
The policy envisions that by 2030, no girl will have to choose between education and managing her period.
Officials called for strong collaboration and implementation to ensure menstrual health becomes a right enjoyed by all Nigerian women and girls.
