Federal Government offers ASUU 65 billion naira revitalization and Earned allowance fund; to exempt ASUU from IPPIS

The Federal government has, offered N65 billion to address some demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in a bid to end the protracted strike action.

The government in a meeting with the union on Friday also agreed to pay the lecturers their outstanding salaries.

Reading out the communique at the end of the meetings, the minister of labour, Chris Ngige, said
The N65 billion seeks to address the issue of earned allowances and revitalization of universities.

He noted that the government had brought on a proposal of N25 billion Revitalization and N40 billion Earned Allowances
Or,
N30 billion revitalization fund and N35 billion Earned Allowances.

He added that ASUU is to return to the government with acceptance of either of the offers.

On the issue of withheld salaries, Mr Ngige said the federal ministry of labour and the education ministry will review the issue of ‘no work, no pay’ policy, with a view to getting approval for the withheld salaries to be paid.

According to him, the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the vice-chancellors are working together to make sure that the withheld salaries are paid through the old method – the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS),

While adding that the ASUU team has met with the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and they were working together on the UTAS system.

In his remarks, the National President of ASUU,
Biodun Ogunyemi, said ASUU will take the new offer to its members after which a response will be communicated next week Friday.
