The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to integrate adolescent-specific services into primary healthcare across the country.

This initiative will focus on adolescent girls’ access to menstrual hygiene, reproductive health education, and mental health support through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.

At a press conference marking International Adolescent Health Week, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammad Ali Pate, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving adolescent health systems.

He stressed the need to tackle issues such as nutrition, gender-based violence, and mental health disorders, which are on the rise among young people.

Minister Pate emphasized that adolescents are not only the future but also a vital part of Nigeria’s present, and that ensuring their resilience is key to the country’s progress.

The ministry has also launched the National Mental Health Program to address mental health awareness and provide much-needed support for young people facing challenges like depression and anxiety.

In his address, the minister encouraged all sectors of society to work together to create safe and supportive environments for adolescents, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to thrive.
