Anambra Civil Society Network (ASCONET) has urged the Federal Government to inaugurate the completed Umueri International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Anambra State, in preparation for the coming governorship election in the state.
The group said this will help ensure a smooth movement of logistics and hitch-free election, in view of the security challenges in the South East.
The statement signed by the Chairman of ASCONET, Chris Azor, reads in part: “Considering the current security challenges and the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver credible and violence-free election in the state come November 16, it is advocated that the Federal Government opens up the airport for use, before, during and after the governorship election.”
It added that opening the airport for public use before November 6, would benefit the people in their businesses and exercise their franchise without hindrance.
The statement noted that on Monday, July 12, 2021, the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, and her Industries, Trade, and Investment counterpart, Niyi Adebayo, flew into the state via the airport on their way to inaugurate some projects at Innoson Motors, Nnewi.
