
Seven persons on Tuesday sustained varying degrees of injury following a head-on collision at Nawfia, along Awka-Onisha expressway in Anambra State.
The crash which occurred around 4.30 pm, involved two vehicles with seventeen persons on board.
According to an eyewitness report, the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus drove against traffic and rammed into the oncoming Sienna space wagon car.
Confirming the incident, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the crash to Route Violation, saying no death was recorded in the crash.
He urged motorists and other road users to desist from Route Violations as it amounts to dangerous driving; especially during the EMBER Months, so as to reduce casualties on our highway.
He said, “A Serious Crash occurred today 7th September 2021 at about 16:30 hours, at Nawfia by Awka-Onisha expressway.
The crash involved two vehicles, an ash colour TOYOTA HIACE Bus with Registration number: EPE 948 YD and a white colour SPACE WAGON TOYOTA SIENNA with Registration number BKL 361 ZJ.
“17 people were involved in the crash: (8 Male adults, 5 female adults, 2 male children, and 2 female children). 7 people were seriously injured: (2 male adults, 5 female adults). No death was recorded.
“The injured victims have been taken to Princeton Hospital, Ngozika Estate Awka. FRSC personnel are on the ground managing the traffic caused by the incident and ensuring that obstructions are cleared.
