Flood Wrecks Havoc in Lagos As Houses, Roads Submerged, Power Supply Disrupted

Lagos State on Tuesday, reportedly experienced heavy rainfall which triggered widespread flooding across several communities.

The flood submerged homes and roads, as well as disrupted transportation and affected electricity supply as critical transmission facilities were impacted.

Correspondents who monitored the situation in Ikeja observed floodwaters flowing into residential buildings and business premises, forcing some residents to temporarily evacuate over fears that the flooding could worsen.

Several roads were left underwater, with flood levels rising to knee height in some areas, making movement difficult for motorists and pedestrians.

Residents attributed the persistent flooding to blocked drainage channels clogged with plastic waste, poor road construction and inadequate drainage infrastructure.

The heavy downpour also inundated several streets in the Festac area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, disrupting movement and leaving residents as well as motorists stranded.

A video shared by Lagos Reporters on showed floodwaters covering major roads and inner streets, with pedestrians wading through the water while motorists struggled to navigate submerged roads.

Flooding was also reported in Ajah, while roads around Adeniji Adele, Evans, Olushi and Anikantamo on Lagos Island were submerged, adding to the widespread disruption experienced across the state
