The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, continued its activities in the 2025 Ember Month Campaign with a town hall meeting.
The event with the theme, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety – Stop Distracted Driving”, attracted dignitaries including community leaders, representatives from sister agencies, and transportation officials.
In a keynote address, Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, emphasized the need for responsible driving behaviors and adherence to traffic rules and regulations. She highlighted this year’s theme: “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” calling for behavior change.
According to the Sector Commander, “Statistics reveal that over 90% of road traffic crashes are attributable to human factors such as speeding, impatience, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, using phones while driving, and ignoring traffic regulations”.
“As we gather today, our mission is clear: to minimize road traffic crashes and ensure safe arrival of travelers, goods, and services across Anambra State and beyond.
“To achieve this goal, the FRSC is taking the following strategic measures:…
✅ Increased patrols and route monitoring on major highways
✅ Enhanced public awareness campaigns at motor parks, Churches, markets, and through media platforms
✅ Strict enforcement against speeding, poorly maintained vehicles, and using phones while driving
✅ Strengthened collaboration with transport unions and park management
✅ Improved rescue response for quick intervention during emergencies.
“We call on all road users and stakeholders to join us in this effort. Safety cannot be achieved through enforcement alone; it requires personal responsibility, a change in attitude, and collective commitment.
“Transport operators must ensure proper vehicle maintenance, strictly adhere to speed limits, and discourage driving while fatigued or under the influence of alcohol. Passengers should also speak up when a driver violates safety practices. Together, we can make our roads safer.
“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the efforts of the Anambra State Government under the leadership of His Excellency the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, for their continuous support in enhancing road safety infrastructure and logistics within the state. We also commend our partners in the transport industry, security agencies, and media organizations for their unwavering support.
“As we continue the 2025 Ember Months Campaign activities in Anambra State with a town hall meeting, let this not just be a ceremony, but a renewed commitment to preserving lives. Every journey must be a safe journey. Every driver must value the lives aboard. Every stakeholder must fulfill their responsibility.
“As the FRSC, we will not relent. We will continue to educate, enforce, and provide rescue services — because every life matters.”I urge you all: Stay alert. Stay alive. Stop distracted driving. Take responsibility for your safety. The road is not a racetrack, and life has no duplicate.”
During the meeting, participants agreed that all road users must strictly adhere to traffic rules. It was decided that speed-limiting devices would be installed in vehicles to help reduce excessive speeding.
Additionally, sister agencies will collaborate with the FRSC to enforce traffic discipline.
