Gov. Soludo Promises Anambra Children Brighter Future
Children in Anambra State joined their counterparts across the country to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day which usually comes up on 27th May, every year.
Addressing the children at an event to mark the day which took place at the newly-commissioned Solution Fun City in Awka, the capital city, Governor of the State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, assured Anambra children of a better, brighter and prosperous future.
The governor told them that his administration is doing everything within its powers to protect the rights and interests of Anambra children in order to guarantee their future.
He pointed out that his utmost priority is to provide them conducive environment to explore, identify their talents and thrive.
“I wont say more than this, but to reassure you that with us here, you are in safe hands. Everyday we wake up, we are thinking about you, acting in your best interest to protect you so that you can guarantee a future for Anambra State, Nigeria and humanity.
“So today, Children’s Day, we want to celebrate you and all our children. The few of you here are but representatives from various local governments and using you as a point of contact to send our Goodwill Message to all the children across the entire state.”
Governor Soludo further encouraged every Nigerian to become a child protection champion, reaffirming his commitment towards nurturing and protecting the children who, he described, as Nigeria’s future leaders, innovators and change-makers.
“To our beloved children, you matter. Your dreams and voices matter. No one has the right to hurt, silence or diminish you. If you are bullied or harmed, speak up; you will be heard and protected.
“Our children are not just statistics, they are the heart of the nation. Let today mark a Renewed Hope to building Nigeria where no child suffers in silence, no child is left behind and every child grows in dignity, peace and love.”
The Governor hired that his administration built the Solution Fun City to allow children exercise their minds and have fun, highliting that every child in government-owned schools in Anambra receive free primary and secondary education.
“All works and no play make Jack a dull boy. We will show you where you will not only go to play to exercise your mind but also have fun. And we have finally built for you here in Anambra, and many more of this type will show up in next few years because Anambra must change from a departure lounge to a destination of choice,” Soludo concluded.
Major highpoints of the Children’s Day Celebration include Cutting of cake, march past by selected schools across the three Senatorial Districts in the state, and touring the entire sections of the Fun City by the school children.
Results of the March Past, showed that Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, came first, Urban Secondary School, Onitsha, came second, while Stella Maris Secondary School, Umueri, came third.
For Special Schools in the same march past competition, Special Care School, Awka, came first, Special Need for Deaf and Dumb Onitsha, came second and Special Education Centre, Umuchu, clinched the third position.
